Currently,
there are 410 unique photos remaining after removing duplicates (the ones that were uploaded more than once).
Based on this number, there were only two viable options for resizing the photo mosaic:
Option 1) 24x24 = 576 tiles (squares or photos within the mosaic).
Option 2) 36x36 = 1,296 tiles.
I CHOSE "Option 2"
Pros & Cons
Option 1:
Pros:
- Pictures appear larger.
Cons:
- Only 4 out of 10 (out of a total of 410 unique photos) are duplicated, which means that only 166 of us would have had our photos duplicated (displayed at least twice, or more depending on the colors in the picture), leaving most of us with only one instance.
- Additionally, the main picture, "Renaissance Album Cover," looks distorted.
Option 2:
Pros:
- While they may not seem as large as the ones in Option 1, if you were to print the photo mosaic in high resolution, each photo would be 1 inch by 1 inch. This is actually quite good as it allows you to see each photo clearly if printed.
- Out of the total 410 photos, 369 photos are duplicated at least 3 times.
Cons:
- Only 41 photos are displayed once (See Endnotes below).
Question: Were there options other than 1 and 2?
Answer: Yes.
There were additional resizing options (48x48, 60x60, and 72x72), but the greater the number of tiles, the smaller the size of the photos, which would result in a lower resolution if the photo mosaic were to be printed.
Endnotes:
(1) I attempted to resize the photo mosaic multiple times and utilized the "Duplicate photos evenly" feature, but it wouldn't allow me to duplicate those 41 photos at least one more time. This is due to the colors in each individual picture.
(2) There's another feature called "Colorize face/text tiles." It enables the adjustment of the color in the pictures. I also experimented with this feature to see if I could decrease the number of photos displayed only once. However, the more I increased the color in each individual photo, the more distorted the Renaissance cover appeared. Conversely, if I reduced the colors in each photo to make the Renaissance Album Cover clearer, the number of photos displayed only once increased.
